Description
Approximately 400 years old, this tree pre-dates European settlement in Australia by around 200 years
height : 36.5m (~106ft)
diameter: 3m (~9ft) at chest height
it was pretty amazing to see this tree still surviving in an area that was largely felled in the 1800s and used for agriculture. today they have replanted a lot of the farming land with radiata pine which in my opinion is not as 'australian' as the humble gum tree
The King Tree is of the eucalypt species River Red Gum (eucalyptus camaldulensis)

The planting of radiata was a brilliant idea, useless for anything but toilet paper and grows half as fast as most Australian natives and grows like a noxious weed. Unlike little trees like this, radiata is entirely uninteresting to look at too.
Australian Forestry Practice - spend millions on scientific study then rip out every native in sight and plant radiata.
Nice tree, there aren't many left.
